Biography

Kenneth began volunteering with the Workers’ Party (WP) in 2023, contributing to the Policy team and assisting in East Coast, Bedok Reservoir-Punggol, and Serangoon. In October 2023, he officially became a member of WP. From May 2024, he served as Legislative Assistant to Leader of Opposition, Pritam Singh, and from January 2025, he took on the role of Serangoon Coordinator.

Kenneth advocates for Singapore to cultivate its own modern industrial growth engines, which he believes are essential for broad-based prosperity. He also wants to empower Singaporeans to take the lead in the global technological landscape, ensuring that they are not passive players in the economy. Additionally, he supports reforms to policies that hinder families, particularly in cases where foreign spouses face obstacles such as limited long-term visit passes (LTVP), childcare subsidies, and affordable housing. Kenneth believes that all citizens should have the fundamental right to marry and start a family with anyone of their choosing, without financial or bureaucratic barriers, as this is essential for a truly just society.

Kenneth envisions a Singapore where young people feel optimistic about their future, unburdened by issues like housing affordability and job creation. He believes that such reforms are crucial for building a sense of national mission and creating broad-based prosperity for all Singaporeans. Kenneth believes strongly in the potential of Singaporeans, particularly in their ability to be drivers (rather than passengers) of technological advancement. He envisions Singapore as a protagonist in the technological age, rather than simply being a back-office for multinational corporations. Personally, Kenneth is a big foodie and used to maintain a food blog. He has a love for wanton noodles.

Speech by Kenneth Tiong On MOE - Aircon in Every Classroom

Sir, last year, I asked the Minister about thermal inequality in school classrooms. I cited research that each degree of temperature increase reduces learning by one to two percent — with the largest effects on lower-income students. The Minister acknowledged it. He listed measures: cool paint, faster fans, PE attire, mixed-mode air-conditioning for halls. For classrooms: "continue to explore."

Speech by Kenneth Tiong On MDDI - QKD vs PQC

Sir, I will describe a global consensus that Singapore sits outside.‍ In January 2024, the cybersecurity agencies of France, Germany, the Netherlands, and Sweden issued a joint assessment of quantum key distribution. Their conclusion: QKD is "not yet sufficiently mature from a security perspective" and can only serve "niche use cases." The clear priority, they said, should be migration to post-quantum cryptography. Germany's BSI has said explicitly — and I quote the section heading of their guidance — "Migration to post-quantum cryptography has priority over the use of QKD."‍

Speech by Kenneth Tiong On MINDEF: Second-year NSF Allowance - $1,800 Local Qualifying Salary (LQS)

Sir, in December, TikTok user ruggerbud47, calculated how many McSpicy burgers his NSF allowance could buy and compared it to previous batches at the same rank. The answer: fewer. Despite nominal increases, NSF purchasing power has fallen. Every NSF watching understood it instantly.

Speech by Kenneth Tiong On MINDEF: Digital and Intelligence Service Cyber Talent - Private Sector Path

Sir, in February, MDDI disclosed that all four of Singapore's major telcos — Singtel, StarHub, M1, and SIMBA — had been breached by UNC3886. This raises the question: does DIS have the talent pipeline to fight the next UNC3886?
