Biography

Ru is currently Treasurer, and is responsible for party finances and financial policy. She started volunteering with the party in 2011, and was elected a Member of Parliament for Sengkang GRC in July 2020.

Ru read Natural Sciences as an undergraduate at the University of Cambridge, and subsequently qualified as a solicitor of England and Wales, working at a ‘magic circle’ law firm in London and Frankfurt, before moving back to Singapore, where she worked in finance and subsequently was head of legal and communications of a listed public company.

Her three young sons keep her continually on her toes, and she hopes that they will grow up to serve a country and society which can hold respect and space for diverse viewpoints and backgrounds.

Having previously represented her college in football and rowing, these days Ru is content to nurse creaking joints while training towards obtaining a 4th kyu in Aikido, and also enjoys outdoor time, cooking and baking with her children. She is also renewing her knowledge and qualifications in the field of psychology and coaching.

Speech by He Ting Ru on the Public Sector (Governance) (Amendment) Bill

Today, public services are delivered by community partners, social services agencies and even private contractors, and we agree that it is important that data is available where needed to ensure that public services are allowed to reach as wide an audience as possible, and to enable agencies to get assistance to vulnerable groups. Ultimately, data empowers policy making that is more responsive to the needs of a diverse population.

From cyber-bullying, rise in hate speech to AI-Generated content, online exploitation, misinformation and gender-based violence, we are having to deal with a wide variety of harms which have the added threat of going viral.

Speech by He Ting Ru On Workplace Fairness (Dispute Resolution) Bill

Following this House’s legislating against workplace discrimination earlier this year, the Bill before us provides clear steps for aggrieved employees to seek recourse against errant employers who have wronged them, and I support the Bill.

Careshield Amendment Bill

How we view and ultimately support the long-term care of the vulnerable in our society should be a reflection of what Singapore values. Care recipients are our parents, our partners, our neighbours, and perhaps even ourselves.
