Biography

Ru is currently Treasurer, and is responsible for party finances and financial policy. She started volunteering with the party in 2011, and was elected a Member of Parliament for Sengkang GRC in July 2020.

Ru read Natural Sciences as an undergraduate at the University of Cambridge, and subsequently qualified as a solicitor of England and Wales, working at a ‘magic circle’ law firm in London and Frankfurt, before moving back to Singapore, where she worked in finance and subsequently was head of legal and communications of a listed public company.

Her three young sons keep her continually on her toes, and she hopes that they will grow up to serve a country and society which can hold respect and space for diverse viewpoints and backgrounds.

Having previously represented her college in football and rowing, these days Ru is content to nurse creaking joints while training towards obtaining a 4th kyu in Aikido, and also enjoys outdoor time, cooking and baking with her children. She is also renewing her knowledge and qualifications in the field of psychology and coaching.

One of the ways that our policies seek to do so is by getting workers to undertake further training and education. Yet, this is in itself challenging; attending courses, often whilst juggling work and other life commitments, requires a significant expenditure of energy, time, and also money.

Speech by He Ting Ru On Tobacco (Control of Advertisements and Sale) (Amendment) and Other Matters Bill

Mr Speaker,‍ The renaming of the Tobacco (Control of Advertisements and Sale) Act to the Tobacco and Vaporisers Control Act is symbolic of the Government’s increased focus on tackling vaporisers (also known as vapes), which has seen increased usage over the past few years.

Speech by He Ting Ru On MOH – cohort smoking ban

For years now, the Government has been studying the possible roll-out of a tobacco-free generation policy. Earlier this year, the MOS for Health said in an exchange with me that the effectiveness of implementing such a policy is not straightforward and that we are already at an all-time low smoking rate of 8.4% with the existing suite of measures.
