“It is also important to manage visions with realities on the ground.”

How did it all begin?

It started with an email. I emailed offering to help in a constituency event. And yes, they replied quite promptly.

What was your first impression?

I had no previous interactions with a Member of Parliament. I was pleasantly surprised. There was that human touch. I felt that I was able to connect with them on a personal level. In fact, their rapport with their respective constituents is pretty impressive.

How has your experience volunteering with the grassroots been?

Thus far, it has been great! I walk the ground to understand the issues and find solutions to problems. And you must come for our grassroots events. Simple and down-to-earth. Now that I have a better understanding of the role of a MP, I must say that MPs, regardless of their political affiliations are also parliamentary colleagues. They are not enemies with one another. They share differences in vision but they work towards contributing to Singapore. At the same time, it is also important to manage visions with realities on the ground.

What would you say to Singaporeans out there who intend to volunteer for the grassroots?

There’s so much to contribute. No idea is too small. Come forward and share your idea.
